Sometech Signals Strong Entry into Japan’s Medical Device Market

Sometech, a company specializing in 3D medical imaging solutions, has established a promising foothold in Japan’s notoriously hard-to-enter medical device market, leveraging its distinctive technology and practical price competitiveness.

The company announced that it has successfully concluded its participation in Medical Japan 2026, one of the country’s leading medical exhibitions. Marking Sometech’s first official step toward the Japanese market, the event drew a steady stream of in-depth consultations with major local import and distribution networks as well as key figures in the medical community, demonstrating strong market potential.

Japan’s medical market has recently seen clinics and small to mid-sized hospitals face growing pressure on high-end equipment purchases, driven by government fiscal constraints and revisions to the national health insurance fee schedule. As a result, demand for high-quality medical devices that deliver excellent performance at a reasonable price has been rising sharply.

During the exhibition, large local import distributors with annual revenue of approximately KRW 100–150 billion, along with representatives of major medical societies, reportedly showed strong interest in Sometech’s video endoscope system featuring 4K/3D visualization and ICG fluorescence imaging, as well as its 3D laparoscopic system.

Local distribution representatives noted that Sometech’s products offer superior price competitiveness compared to established global brands while delivering excellent resolution and ease of use in procedures. They are said to have actively proposed pursuing regulatory registration in Japan and reviewing new adoption to expand their product lineups.

The response from practicing physicians was just as enthusiastic as that of equipment distributors. Local medical professionals, including those from specialized ophthalmology clinics, were impressed by the precise depth perception and resolution of the 3D digital surgical microscope, requesting additional clinical data and discussing concrete plans for adoption.

In addition, importers and distributors from Europe, including the Czech Republic, Poland, and Lithuania, and from the Middle East, including Qatar and Iraq, visited the booth to request demonstrations of the 4K fluorescence endoscope and RF surgical unit, and explored exclusive distribution agreements, marking notable achievements for the company.

“Although the Japanese medical market is known for being highly conservative, we confirmed that recent changes in the healthcare environment have created greater demand than ever for equipment that combines strong performance with cost efficiency,” a company official said. “We will work closely with the leading partners we met at the exhibition to move quickly on local regulatory approval and building our distribution network.”

The official added, “Building on the network we have established with buyers in Japan, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond, we will further solidify our position as a global surgical platform centered on 3D visualization technology.”
